Communicating with your backyard birds is essential to earning their trust. I speak with my little feathered friends everyday from my greeting in the morning to asking them to not fight for food since there is plenty to go around and I always say goodbye to my little birds. It’s important to keep your voice soft so that you do not scare them. I will speak high pitched so to mimic their tone. I like to listen to their chirping and then I can jump in the conversation. Usually till I start to laugh but it’s all in good fun and I know that they appreciate my efforts. I even get the cute head nods and most of my little feathered friends will go along with it for a bit.
I feel that I am fluent in House Finch, Abert’s Towhee and I can do a little Mockingbird but they like to challenge me and then I get the head nod. 🙂
