On Tuesday March 9th the results were in and I was able to speak with the Doctor who performed the necropsy. He had ran every test possible, checked for disease, poisonings, any signs of trauma, and there was nothing obvious in the lab results. She may have had a heart condition otherwise, no determination for the cause of death was found.
I was told that if I found more recently deceased birds in my yard, I could mail them in and he would take a look because sometimes it does take more than 1 sick bird to determine the cause of death.
If you ever encounter a sick or diseased bird in your yard, you may want to contact the department of agriculture for your state and then locate the Animal Disease Laboratory on the website. This is where you can report sick or diseased birds.
Also, you can help monitor the spread of this disease by contributing to the House Finch Disease Survey. For more information, visit the web site or call (800) 843–2473.
